Aims & Scope
Effective Education is an international, peer-reviewed journal that seeks to play a leading role in shaping the field of research into the effectiveness of educational programs, interventions and differing types of provision. Education is defined broadly, including formal and informal education and covering all stages of the lifespan from early childhood through to higher and adult education. The Journal particularly welcomes papers in the following areas:
Papers reporting the findings of empirical studies using experimental or quasi-experimental methods and/or other appropriate methods that focus explicitly on evaluating the effectiveness of a particular educational program or intervention in improving outcomes for learners and/or teachers.
Papers reporting the findings of secondary analyses of large datasets and/or meta analyses that consider the effectiveness of particular educational programmes, approaches or types of provision.
Papers that report the findings of systematic reviews of educational research either in relation to the effectiveness of a particular type of program or intervention or in relation to what approaches tend to be most effective in improving clearly defined educational outcomes;
Methodological papers that either provide critiques of existing approaches to the design and analysis of research into the effectiveness of education and/or seek to develop new and innovative methods. These can include: papers that focus on the validity and reliability of existing or newly developed outcome measures; the efficacy of existing experimental designs and/or the advocacy of alternative or new designs; innovative approaches to the statistical analysis of data; and methodological issues in relation to research synthesis, e.g. the assessment of publication or design bias.
Critical and theoretical papers that challenge existing orthodoxies and encourage new ways of thinking about the nature, purpose, politics and/or policy impact of research into the effectiveness of education.
Peer Review Policy:
